It’s funny how one day you can feel the rush of playing in the championship game, the excitement you feel for the asian league season afterwards, then next thing you know all of that is just gone, cancelled until further notice due to Covid-19. With this piece, I wanted to showcase how being in quarantine during this pandemic has affected me as well as what I could have been doing if Covid didn’t happen. Sheltering in place has made me realize, what once brought me so much joy could not only be taken for granted but also taken away so easily. Instead of running up and down the court playing against teams from different cities with my friends, I’m at home all day. Everyday. To illustrate this work I used acrylics as well as different reference photos that were taken during the basketball season to help with poses and colors.
Love the artistry. You captured happiness vs reality amidst this pandemic that is quite personal to you. Don’t lose hope though.. The thrill will be back. And when that time comes, you can look back at this beautiful piece of art and say you lived and survived the Covid-19 pandemic. Looking forward to seeing more of your artwork, Mackenzie.
