After taking several art classes each year of my high school career, I’ve experienced a major creative burn-out. I haven’t felt motivated to make any art or even complete school-work, and COVID-19 is only furthering this lack of motivation. I’ve been taking time for myself, but it’s still difficult to find the energy to do anything—that’s what this piece is all about.
This piece was made using magazine clippings and other images I previously had. I chose images that represent my perception of mental health. The elements are contained in a silhouette of my own head, symbolizing the “happenings” in my mind and how I needed to take a step back to overcome this burnout. Though these “happenings” may not be as peaceful as the images suggest, they represent growth and where I want to be. Right now, in the midst of a pandemic as well as a very politically charged society, everyday occurrences can stress out many and negatively impact mental health. I believe mental health is vitally important, and I hope you do too. Please take care of yourself before worrying about anything else! I hope you enjoy this piece; I know I had a lot of fun creating it.
