Whether it be because of the stress from school, the anxiety you get just thinking about that upcoming test, or just the thought of keeping up with all your friends and family, sometimes you can’t help but feel your calm and collected composure slipping. Keeping up the facade that everything is okay, that you’re okay, eventually becomes too hard. You get so used to pretending like you can handle what’s on your plate that its second nature, up until you just can’t do it anymore. You’ve worked yourself so thin it’s impossible to keep yourself from falling apart. To symbolize the feeling of slipping between your own fingers, I chose to illustrate the person literally slipping between their fingers in the form of wax. Like the prompt suggests, Burn Out, what better way to showcase this by painting a melting candle in the form of a person. Here we see the wick of the candle is totally burnt, there is no more to give in order to spark a flame. We see the girl struggling to keep it all together, but inevitably, the melting parts of herself are too much to hide.
