Flying Free

This is a fairly simple drawing I did with color pencils, watercolor, a HB pencil, and a white gel pen. The reason why I made this drawing so simple was because this expresses how I personally feel when my mood is affected by serotonin; butterflies flying from a jar feels like they are given freedom after being cooped up for such a long time. Which us just like how I feel when I have a high serotonin level; I feel carefree and happy, not worrying about anything. The reason why the jar is shaded here and not colored is because it symbolizes the feelings that I have when I have low levels of serotonin: downcast and sad. This can also be related to the BLM movement, where the butterflies in the jar can symbolize the many African Americans and others that have been oppressed for so long. Hopefully, in the near future, they will be able to gain the equality and freedom that they deserve throughout the world and fly free, just like the butterflies.
