Into the Void

This work was inspired by the feeling and vibe of my room one random night. My sister had just gone back to college and brother finally moved out of my room, so my house and in particular, my room, was completely empty. I took a picture at 3 am and I felt like it completely captured how I was feeling. My room felt like a strange place because it had not seen change in 5 years. I felt lost in all the empty space and muted colors that time wore down. When the lights were off I was swallowed by the black abyss and left in a new world. I also added a little ghost to show the empty shell I felt was left behind that was shedded in the changing of my room. Looking back at it, I was a stranger in my own bedroom. The ghost also references the Phoebe Bridgers album “Stranger in the Alps.” That album is very meaningful to me but it also has a very melancholic feeling which fits very well with the image of my room. To create this piece I used paint on canvas, and used mixing techniques to get as close as possible to the correct colors of my room.
