The Sun Will Rise

This piece was inspired by my finding of a Chinese Canadian makeup artist, Mei Pang. Mei has a very striking appearance at first glance as she has a shaved head with many tattoos. Admittedly, I was a bit taken aback by her appearance at first. However, Mei is unapologetically herself, and she reminds me to be true to myself. In 2020, I feel like I didn’t get the opportunity to express myself the way I wanted to. I was always hiding a part of myself from the people in my life. So, I wanted to embody her power of authenticity into my work by drawing a bald woman. The sun in the background represents new beginnings since it is a new year. Because even if I didn’t fully express myself last year, I could always start now.
