To me, “burnout” has a specific connotation towards tiredness and being at a low point, but I’ve never thought of regarding relationships. It occurred to me that friendships can reach this exhaustion point where the relationship is worn out and strained, much like an individual would describe the phrase “burnt out.” When I first listened to this song, it hit me that this was exactly what it feels like for friendships to reach this point of fizzling out, and so I went about making a cover of what would be two friends talking at possibly the most tired point in their friendship. (I would’ve put a real music video to it, but I decided against it, as I really thought the listener could more personally relate to the people in the song without a forced visual.)
